A small hard lump on the arm may be caused by various factors, mainly including: 1. Lipoma: A lipoma is a common benign soft tissue tumor composed of mature fat cells. It can occur in any part of the body where fat is present. It typically presents as a painless, well-defined, soft, and mobile subcutaneous mass. 2. Sebaceous cyst: When the excretory duct of a sebaceous gland becomes obstructed, a retention cyst forms as the accumulating secretions gradually expand the cystic epithelium. These cysts commonly occur in areas rich in sebaceous glands, such as the head, face, neck, and back, but may also appear on the arms. 3. Dermatofibroma: Dermatofibroma is a benign tumor within the dermis caused by focal proliferation of fibroblasts or histiocytes. It is more commonly seen in young and middle-aged women and typically occurs on the extensor surfaces of the limbs, especially the lower legs. 4. Other factors: Boils, insect bite dermatitis, and similar conditions may also cause small hard lumps on the arm. Boils are bacterial infections of hair follicles and surrounding tissues, while insect bite dermatitis results from skin irritation caused by toxins injected during insect bites.
