People with gout can eat preserved eggs (pidan), but should consume them in moderation and maintain an overall controlled diet. As a low-purine food, preserved eggs have relatively low purine content, and moderate consumption will not significantly increase blood uric acid levels; therefore, they can be consumed in appropriate amounts by individuals with gout. Preserved eggs also contain a certain amount of salt and cholesterol, and excessive consumption may be detrimental to health. This is especially important for gout patients, who often have comorbid chronic conditions such as hypertension and hyperlipidemia, and thus need to control their intake of these substances. In addition, the diet of gout patients should follow the principles of low-purine, low-fat, low-salt, and low-sugar intake. They should avoid consuming excessive high-purine foods, such as animal offal, seafood, legumes, and should limit alcohol and sugary beverage consumption. At the same time, patients with gout should also maintain adequate water intake to promote uric acid excretion.
