Disease description:

I have many small red bumps on my skin that look like goosebumps, and they feel rough to the touch. I'm not sure whether it's folliculitis or keratosis pilaris. How can I differentiate between keratosis pilaris and folliculitis?

Keratosis pilaris and folliculitis are two distinct skin conditions, with the main differences as follows: 1. **Etiology**: Keratosis pilaris is primarily caused by genetic factors and may be influenced by vitamin deficiencies, hormonal changes, and other factors. In contrast, folliculitis is mainly caused by infections with pathogenic microorganisms such as bacteria and fungi. 2. **Symptoms**: Keratosis pilaris presents as small, follicle-aligned papules, appearing yellowish, brown, or black in color, and typically causes no significant sensation. Folliculitis presents as red papules, which may be accompanied by pustules, redness, swelling, and pain. 3. **Commonly Affected Areas**: Keratosis pilaris commonly occurs on the outer sides of both arms, the back of the thighs, and the cheeks. Folliculitis commonly affects the chest, back, face, and buttocks.
