Whether folliculitis can be punctured depends on the specific circumstances.

In the later stages of folliculitis inflammation, when the rash develops a white head, it may be appropriate to puncture the lesion with a sterile needle or scalpel under strictly disinfected conditions to drain the pus and promote resolution of the inflammation. However, this procedure should be performed by a qualified healthcare professional to prevent the spread of infection or other complications.

However, during the early stages of folliculitis or before a pustule has formed, it is advisable to avoid puncturing the rash by oneself. Doing so may cause skin damage, worsen the infection, lead to deeper tissue infection, or even allow bacteria and other pathogens to enter the bloodstream, causing systemic infection. Additionally, puncturing the rash can compromise the skin barrier, increase the risk of secondary skin infections, and potentially result in the formation of scars.

Therefore, patients with folliculitis should follow medical advice and choose appropriate treatment options rather than attempting to manage the condition themselves.
