What causes hypoglycemia?
Disease description:
Recently, I went to the hospital for a health checkup and discovered that I have hypoglycemia. I would like to ask, what are the causes of hypoglycemia?
Hypoglycemia has various causes, primarily including the following:
1. **Inadequate carbohydrate intake**: Prolonged fasting, excessive dieting, or selective eating can lead to insufficient carbohydrate intake, failing to meet the body's energy demands and resulting in hypoglycemia.
2. **Reduced glucose production**: The liver is the primary organ for glycogen storage and release. If liver function is impaired, as in hepatitis or cirrhosis, glycogen synthesis and breakdown may be affected, leading to decreased blood glucose levels.
3. **Excessive glucose consumption**: Intense exercise or physical labor significantly increases glucose consumption. If glucose is not replenished in time, hypoglycemia may occur.
4. **Medication factors**: Certain medications, such as insulin and oral hypoglycemic agents, can increase insulin secretion or reduce the liver's ability to release glucose, thereby causing hypoglycemia.
5. **Other factors**: Long-term alcohol abuse, gastrointestinal surgery, emotional disturbances, and other conditions may also affect blood glucose levels and lead to hypoglycemia.
