Why does bilirubin decrease so slowly?
Disease description:
The doctor said my bilirubin level is very high and recommended I take medication to lower it. Why is it taking so long for the bilirubin level to decrease?
The slow decrease of bilirubin levels may involve multiple factors:
1. Physiological factors: After bilirubin levels drop to a certain level, the rate of decline naturally slows down, which is a normal physiological phenomenon.
2. Unhealthy lifestyle habits: Long-term熬夜 (staying up late), insomnia, excessive alcohol consumption, and a fatty diet may all affect liver function, leading to slower bilirubin metabolism and thus a slower decline in bilirubin levels.
3. Liver function impairment: Particularly in patients with chronic liver diseases such as hepatitis and cirrhosis, severe liver damage directly affects bilirubin metabolism and excretion, resulting in a slow decline or difficulty in complete resolution of bilirubin levels.
4. Improper or inadequate treatment: During treatment, inappropriate medication use or insufficient dosage may also affect the rate at which bilirubin levels decrease.
During treatment, patients should actively cooperate with their physician's treatment plan and improve lifestyle habits to promote normal bilirubin metabolism and excretion.
