Dr. Zhao Xiaodong
After induced labor, lochia refers to the blood, tissue fragments, and other materials expelled as the endometrium sheds. It is a natural phenomenon during the uterus's recovery process. Normally, lochia undergoes three stages: 1. **Bright red lochia**: In the first few days after delivery, the lochia is bright red and heavy, resembling a menstrual period. It typically lasts about 1-2 weeks. 2. **Pink or light red lochia**: During the following weeks, the color gradually lightens to pink or light red, and the amount decreases. This stage may last 2-3 weeks. 3. **White or yellow lochia**: In the final stage, the lochia becomes much lighter in color, appearing white or yellowish, and has a mucous-like consistency. This phase generally lasts 1-2 weeks. Lochia usually clears up completely around 4-6 weeks after induced labor. However, individual experiences may vary. If lochia lasts longer than 6 weeks, or if there is a sudden increase in amount, darkening of color, foul odor, fever, or other abnormal symptoms, medical attention should be sought promptly.
