Why is my baby's urine light green?
Disease description:
Today I noticed that my baby's urine was slightly greenish in color. I became somewhat concerned about my child's health and would like to ask: what could cause a baby's urine to appear light green?
The baby's urine appearing light green may be caused by the influence of food or medication, urinary tract infection, bilirubin excretion, and other reasons.
1. Food or medication effects: Certain foods or medications may cause changes in urine color. For example, foods containing green food coloring or certain vitamin supplements may turn the urine green. This change is usually harmless and will return to normal on its own after discontinuation of the related substances.
2. Urinary tract infection: Urine discoloration can also be one of the manifestations of a urinary tract infection. The infection causes an increase in pigments or other substances in the urine, thereby changing its color. The urine may be accompanied by symptoms such as a strong odor, frequent urination, or painful urination.
3. Bilirubin excretion: In some cases, abnormal bilirubin excretion may also cause the urine to appear green. This situation is usually related to biliary tract problems and may require further examination to rule out the possibility of liver or gallbladder disease.
If the baby's urine remains green for a prolonged period or is accompanied by other discomfort symptoms such as fever or abdominal pain, prompt medical attention is advised.
