What causes dwarfism?
Disease description:
My friend's child has always been short in stature. After a hospital examination, the child was diagnosed with dwarfism, and it was said that he would not grow tall in the future. What exactly is going on? This is the first time I've heard of this.

Dwarfism, medically known as growth hormone deficiency, results from insufficient secretion of growth hormone in the body. This condition can be congenital or may develop during a child's growth. The following are some of the possible causes:
1. Isolated growth hormone deficiency associated with impaired pituitary function, where the pituitary gland may secrete reduced amounts of growth hormone.
2. Skeletal system disorders such as chondrodystrophies and vitamin D-resistant rickets, often related to malnutrition.
3. Pre-existing renal diseases in patients, such as Fanconi syndrome and renal tubular acidosis.
4. Congenital enzyme deficiencies affecting metabolic functions, or long-term administration of high-dose corticosteroid medications.
5. Congenital ovarian hypoplasia, a congenital genetic disorder in females, characterized by underdeveloped ovaries accompanied by dwarfism.
