Disease description:

A friend told me he has developed ichthyosis, possibly due to neglect in the past. I'm also afraid that I might get ichthyosis and would like to know what the early symptoms of ichthyosis are.

The main symptoms of the pre-phase of ichthyosis include: 1. Dry skin: This primarily occurs on the extensor surfaces of the limbs and the trunk. The skin becomes rough, tight, and lacks elasticity. 2. Scale formation: As the dryness worsens, the skin surface gradually develops multiple layers of white or light brown scales. These scales are rhombic or polygonal in shape, resembling fish scales or snake skin. 3. Absence of subjective symptoms: In the early stages of the disease, patients typically do not experience obvious subjective symptoms. However, as the condition progresses, some patients may experience skin itching during winter and general discomfort due to impaired sweating in summer. 4. Varied severity: The severity of ichthyosis varies significantly. Mild cases may only present with dry, rough skin and minimal scaling, while severe cases can be accompanied by pityriasiform scales up to 3-8 mm thick, covering most or the entire body surface. 5. Diverse inheritance patterns: Ichthyosis can be caused by various genetic patterns, including autosomal dominant inheritance and X-linked inheritance. Different types of ichthyosis may exhibit slight variations in symptoms.
