Symptoms of indigestion
I have recently been feeling a lack of appetite while eating. After eating a bit too much, I feel nauseous and experience dry heaving. I would like to ask if this is due to indigestion. What are the symptoms of indigestion?
Dyspepsia is a common gastrointestinal problem, with diverse symptoms that may vary among individuals. The main symptoms include:
1. Patients may also experience abdominal pain or discomfort, nausea, and vomiting. These discomforts may manifest as a dull ache, mild abdominal pain, or a feeling of food not being fully digested after eating, resulting in a sensation of fullness.
2. Increased gas in the stomach may lead to frequent belching; acid reflux into the esophagus causes heartburn.
3. Poor appetite, where patients may have no desire to eat or feel full after consuming only small amounts of food. Undigested food may appear in the stool, which may be loose or greasy in texture.
4. Nausea and vomiting: Dyspepsia may cause a feeling of nausea, which can progress to vomiting in severe cases.
5. Abnormal bowel movements, including constipation or diarrhea, although these symptoms are less typical in functional dyspepsia compared to the aforementioned symptoms.
The symptoms of dyspepsia may be persistent or recurrent, typically lasting no more than one month or recurring intermittently over a period not exceeding three months. If the above symptoms occur, timely medical consultation is recommended.
