Disease description:

I have a friend who is 28 years old and usually likes to eat preserved eggs (pi dan) very much. However, recently he heard that some foods may cause adverse reactions when consumed together with preserved eggs. May I ask, what foods should not be eaten together with preserved eggs?

Pidan (preserved duck egg) is a unique food that requires attention to food pairing when consumed.

1. Plums: It is not advisable to consume pidan with plums, as the vitamins in plums may interact with components in pidan, potentially causing gastrointestinal discomfort.

2. Milk and dairy products: The alkaline substances in pidan may interfere with protein digestion and absorption. Consuming pidan together with milk or other dairy products may lead to indigestion.

3. Eels and soft-shelled turtles: Eating pidan together with eels or soft-shelled turtles may cause food poisoning, as their nutritional components might neutralize each other or trigger adverse reactions.

4. High-protein foods: Such as meat and soy products. Pidan itself is high in protein; consuming it together with other high-protein foods may increase the burden on the kidneys. Individuals with poor kidney function should be particularly cautious with such combinations.

5. Beer: Pidan contains a certain amount of lead. Although modern production techniques have significantly reduced lead levels, excessive intake may still be harmful to health. Beer promotes blood circulation and accelerates lead absorption; long-term and excessive consumption of pidan together with beer may increase the risk of lead poisoning.
