What should not be eaten with preserved eggs?
I really enjoy eating preserved eggs (pi dan), but my friends always say that consuming too many preserved eggs is bad for health and that there are several food禁忌 (taboos). So, what foods should not be eaten together with preserved eggs?

Foods that should not be consumed with preserved eggs (pidan):
1. Milk and dairy products: Preserved eggs contain a relatively high amount of lead. Although modern production techniques have significantly reduced lead levels, it is still advisable to avoid consuming them with calcium-rich dairy products such as milk. Calcium and lead may form insoluble compounds in the body, affecting calcium absorption.
2. High-protein foods: Preserved eggs themselves are high in protein. Consuming them together with large amounts of other high-protein foods may increase the burden on the kidneys, especially for individuals with impaired kidney function.
3. Persimmons: The alkaline components in preserved eggs may react with tannic acid in persimmons, forming indigestible precipitates that could cause stomach discomfort or indigestion.
4. Alcoholic beverages: Components in preserved eggs, when combined with alcohol, may irritate the gastric mucosa, particularly in individuals with sensitive gastrointestinal systems, potentially causing discomfort.
Individuals with specific health conditions, such as hypertension or kidney disease, should be more cautious in selecting food combinations to avoid worsening their conditions.
