Symptoms of hypothyroidism
Hello, I have been feeling down lately and experiencing irregular menstruation. I would like to know what other symptoms are associated with hypothyroidism.

Hypothyroidism (commonly known as underactive thyroid) is an endocrine disorder caused by insufficient synthesis, secretion, or biological effect of thyroid hormones. Its symptoms vary, and the main characteristics are as follows:
1. Facial features and body condition: The skin may become dry, coarse, and even scaly; weight gain occurs despite no changes in dietary habits; fatigue and weakness, with patients often feeling listless and easily tired.
2. Neurological symptoms: Depressed mood or emotional lows, with loss of interest in daily activities; impaired memory and decreased attention.
3. Low basal metabolism: Constipation due to slowed intestinal motility leading to difficulty in defecation, possibly accompanied by bloating; sensitivity to cold, with patients feeling cold more easily than normal individuals; muscle weakness, joint stiffness, or pain.
4. Symptoms in other systems: For example, the cardiovascular system may exhibit bradycardia and heart enlargement; the digestive system may show hypochlorhydria, bloating, and reduced appetite; the reproductive system may present with increased menstrual flow or irregular cycles in female patients.
The appearance of these symptoms is closely related to the various regulatory roles of thyroid hormones in the human body. Therefore, if related symptoms occur, timely medical consultation is recommended.
