Disease description:

I have very heavy menstrual bleeding. It always feels like I'm experiencing a hemorrhage. People mentioned it might be "benlou" (abnormal uterine bleeding). I'd like to ask the doctor, what does "benlou" mean?

Metrorrhagia and menorrhagia are common gynecological conditions categorized under menstrual disorders. They are primarily characterized by excessive or scant vaginal bleeding and irregular menstrual cycles. When the onset is abrupt, with heavy, torrential bleeding, it is termed "Beng" (flooding), whereas a slower onset with light, continuous bleeding is termed "Lou" (dripping). Although the bleeding patterns differ between "Beng" and "Lou," they often transform into one another during the course of the disease.

Beng and Lou can occur at any age from menarche to menopause and may affect fertility and overall health. The pathogenesis is mainly related to damage to the Chong and Ren meridians, resulting in the inability to regulate menstrual blood. Common causes include kidney deficiency, spleen deficiency, blood heat, and blood stasis. In treatment, TCM typically follows the principle of syndrome differentiation and treatment, aiming to stop bleeding and regulate menstruation through methods such as regulating qi and blood, consolidating the Chong and Ren meridians, and clearing heat to cool the blood. Additionally, integrating modern medical diagnostic techniques to identify the underlying cause and employing comprehensive treatment strategies can enhance therapeutic outcomes.

In daily life, patients should ensure adequate rest, avoid fatigue, maintain emotional stability, follow a light diet, and avoid spicy or irritating foods to promote recovery.
