What causes yellowish semen?
I recently noticed that my semen has turned yellowish. Should I be concerned? I would like to ask the doctor what might be causing this.
Causes of yellowish semen include the following:
1. Abstinence duration: Prolonged periods without sexual activity or masturbation may increase the proportion of prostatic fluid and seminal vesicle fluid in semen, potentially causing a yellowish appearance.
2. Dehydration: When the body is dehydrated, urine becomes concentrated and darker in color. Similarly, semen may also appear yellowish.
3. Dietary habits and lifestyle: Long-term consumption of spicy, stimulating, or greasy foods, as well as frequent熬夜 (staying up late), and high work stress may also affect semen color.
4. Inflammatory infections: Inflammation of the reproductive system, such as prostatitis, urethritis, or epididymitis, may cause changes in semen color. Associated symptoms may include frequent urination, urgency, and painful urination.
5. Hepatobiliary system diseases: Conditions such as hepatocellular jaundice or cholestatic jaundice can cause jaundice, which may also lead to yellowish semen. Additional symptoms may include yellowing of the skin and mucous membranes, and dark urine.
6. Use of certain medications: For example, vitamins or rifampin may sometimes cause semen to appear yellowish.
