Disease description:

My baby is almost one month old, and the family members all feel that his body is very floppy. They suspect he may have cerebral palsy, so I've become very worried. I would like to know, what are the early symptoms of cerebral palsy in infants?

Early symptoms of cerebral palsy in infants mainly include the following aspects:

1. Feeding difficulties:表现为 poor coordination of sucking and swallowing. Babies may experience difficulty feeding, lack awareness of hunger or fullness, fail to actively latch onto the nipple, and show no voluntary swallowing response after feeding. Poor oral closure may lead to spitting up or regurgitation and a tendency to choke or cough during feeding. Additionally, slow weight gain may also be present.

2. Abnormal emotional behavior: Infants with cerebral palsy may display excessive irritability, persistent crying, difficulty falling asleep, strong reactions to sudden noises or changes in position, body tremors, and crying that resembles a startled response. Some infants, on the other hand, may appear abnormally quiet, show no crying or movement, fail to respond to sounds, have a blank stare, and display little or no facial expression.

3. Difficulties in care: Babies may exhibit either body stiffness or overly relaxed muscles, making tasks such as dressing or changing diapers challenging. They may also have an unstable grip when being held. During bathing, when the baby's feet touch the edge or surface of the tub, the infant's back may immediately stiffen into an arched position, often accompanied by crying.

4. Delayed motor development: This includes delays in both gross and fine motor skills. For example, a baby aged 2-3 months may be unable to lift their head, at 4 months may still have their thumbs flexed inward, and lack awareness of initiating rolling over. As the infant grows older, further developmental delays may appear, such as inability to roll over, sit, crawl, or walk.

If a baby exhibits any of the above symptoms, it is recommended to seek medical attention promptly.
