How to manage cold hands and feet
I usually feel cold in my body, and even in summer I feel chilly in my hands and feet. I would like to ask the doctor, how can I manage cold hands and feet?
Cold hands and feet, medically referred to as cold extremities, is a symptom caused by poor peripheral blood circulation, resulting in lower-than-normal body temperature in the limbs, especially the hands and feet. It is commonly associated with conditions such as impaired blood circulation, physical weakness, anemia, hypothyroidism, hypotension, and diabetes. Methods for management include:
1. Dietary regulation: Consume more warming and nourishing foods such as lamb, Chinese wolfberry (goji berries), longan, and red dates. These foods help enhance the body's yang energy and improve blood circulation. Additionally, adequate intake of foods rich in vitamin E, niacin, and B vitamins, such as nuts and carrots, can also help alleviate symptoms.
2. Exercise regularly: Engage in aerobic activities such as jogging, mountain climbing, and rope skipping, which help promote blood circulation and metabolism. Try hand and foot exercises, such as hand grip training or pedaling an exercise bike, to enhance peripheral circulation.
3. Avoid prolonged sitting or standing. Regularly move your limbs to promote blood circulation. Keep warm and dress appropriately, especially protecting the hands and feet.
4. Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) therapies: Consider TCM treatments such as moxibustion or cupping therapy, or take herbal medicines that warm yang energy and invigorate qi and blood circulation, such as Fuzi Lizhong Pills or Jin Kui Shenqi Pills, to improve cold hands and feet by promoting circulation of qi and blood.
If symptoms of cold hands and feet persist or are accompanied by other discomforts, prompt medical consultation and examination are recommended.
