Dr. Cao Zhiqiang

Intermittent proteinuria, where protein appears in the urine intermittently, may be caused by various factors:

1. Glomerular diseases: Such as acute or chronic glomerulonephritis, nephrotic syndrome, etc., which can increase the permeability of the glomerular filtration membrane, allowing proteins that should not normally appear in the urine to leak out.

2. Postural proteinuria: Proteinuria that occurs in certain body positions, such as prolonged standing, and disappears when the position is changed. It is commonly seen in adolescents and is usually benign.

3. Diabetic nephropathy: Diabetes can affect the kidney's filtration function, leading to protein excretion in the urine.

4. Intense physical activity: Physiological changes caused by strenuous exercise may lead to renal vasoconstriction or congestion, thereby increasing the permeability of the glomerular filtration membrane and causing protein leakage.

5. Medication effects: Certain medications, such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), antibiotics, etc., may cause intermittent proteinuria.

If you have any concerns, it is recommended to seek medical advice promptly.
