Balanoposthitis, an inflammation of the foreskin and glans penis, is a common male genitourinary disorder. This condition is usually triggered by factors such as phimosis, accumulation of smegma, local irritation, or infection. Common symptoms include redness, swelling, pain, itching of the foreskin, and increased secretions.

The causes of balanoposthitis are varied and mainly include the following: first, bacterial infections, such as Staphylococcus and Streptococcus; second, fungal infections, most commonly Candida albicans; third, viral infections, such as herpesvirus; fourth, chemical irritation, such as excessive washing or use of detergents and soaps on the foreskin; fifth, allergic reactions, which may also cause balanoposthitis in response to certain substances; sixth, sexually transmitted diseases, such as gonorrhea and non-gonococcal urethritis; seventh, phimosis or redundant foreskin, which creates a moist environment conducive to bacterial growth.

Treatment for balanoposthitis includes maintaining local hygiene, pharmacological therapy, and surgical intervention when necessary.
