Symptoms of Urinary Tract Infection
Recently, I have been experiencing frequent and urgent urination, and I feel some pain while urinating. I'm worried it might be a urinary tract infection. Doctor, what are the symptoms of a urinary tract infection?

Urinary tract infection symptoms vary depending on the site of infection and can generally be categorized into the following main symptoms:
1. Urination abnormalities: Patients may experience urgency, which is a sudden, strong need to urinate; frequency, characterized by frequent urination with only small amounts of urine passed each time; and pain or a burning sensation during urination.
2. Changes in urine: Urinary tract infections can also cause changes in the color and odor of urine. For example, urine may become cloudy, dark yellow, or have a strong odor.
3. Hematuria: In severe cases of urinary tract infection, damage to blood vessels in the urethra or bladder may result in hematuria. Hematuria can be either microscopic (visible only under a microscope) or gross (visible to the naked eye).
4. Back or flank pain: When a urinary tract infection spreads to the kidneys, it may cause pyelonephritis, resulting in flank or back pain. This pain is often severe and may be accompanied by tenderness upon percussion in the kidney area.
5. Systemic symptoms: In some cases, especially when the infection spreads to the kidneys, patients may develop systemic symptoms such as fever, chills, nausea, and vomiting.
