What are the symptoms of mycoplasma infection in women?
I have been experiencing frequent urination and urgency recently. The doctor said it's a mycoplasma infection. May I ask, what are the symptoms of mycoplasma infection in women?
Women with mycoplasma infection often do not show symptoms immediately, but when symptoms do appear, common manifestations include:
1. Changes in vaginal discharge: Women with the infection may notice changes in the amount, color, or odor of vaginal discharge. The discharge may become more abundant, appear yellow or green, and have a foul smell.
2. Urethral irritation: When the infection spreads to the urethra, symptoms such as frequent urination, urgency, painful urination, redness, and congestion at the urethral opening may also occur.
3. Lower abdominal pain: In some cases, the infection can cause discomfort or pain in the lower abdomen.
4. Pain during sexual intercourse: Some patients may experience dyspareunia (pain during intercourse), vaginal bleeding after intercourse, as well as vaginal pain, abnormal odor, or discharge.
5. Menstrual cycle abnormalities: Although uncommon, some women may experience changes in their menstrual cycle, such as increased bleeding or shortened cycle length.
6. Risk of infertility: Long-term untreated mycoplasma infection may affect reproductive health, increasing the risk of pelvic inflammatory disease, which can lead to infertility.
