Dr. Yang Ziqi

Gliquidone tablets, also known as Tangshiping, belong to the second-generation sulfonylurea class of antidiabetic medications. These drugs primarily lower blood glucose levels by stimulating specific receptors on the membrane of pancreatic β-cells, thereby increasing insulin levels in the body. Additionally, Tangshiping enhances the sensitivity of target tissues to insulin, promotes glucose utilization, and reduces glucose production in the liver.

The mechanism of action of gliquidone involves closing ATP-sensitive potassium channels and opening calcium channels, thereby increasing intracellular calcium influx and subsequently promoting insulin secretion. Due to its mechanism of action and pharmacological properties, Tangshiping is widely used in the treatment of patients with type 2 diabetes. It has a plasma half-life of 1.5 hours, reaches peak plasma concentration within 2–2.5 hours after oral administration, and is primarily excreted via the biliary tract. It is suitable for patients with mild renal dysfunction and those with diabetes complicated by nephropathy. However, it carries a risk of hypoglycemia, so blood glucose levels should be monitored closely during treatment.

Medication should be taken under the guidance of a qualified physician.
