Dr. Tian Hongbo

The normal value of triglycerides is a range typically used to assess the level of fat in the blood. Generally, the normal reference range for triglycerides is between 0.45 and 1.70 mmol/L. The level of triglycerides can be further categorized as follows:

1. Desirable level: less than 1.70 mmol/L, indicating that triglyceride levels are within the normal range and the risk of cardiovascular health problems is relatively low.

2. Borderline level: 1.70 to 2.25 mmol/L, indicating that triglyceride levels are beginning to rise but have not yet reached the point requiring medical intervention. At this stage, attention should be given and measures taken to prevent further increases.

3. Elevated level: greater than 2.25 mmol/L, known as hypertriglyceridemia, which may increase the risk of cardiovascular disease and requires intervention through dietary adjustments, medication, or other measures.

Triglyceride levels above the normal range may be associated with health problems such as cardiovascular disease and pancreatitis. Lifestyle modifications, such as balanced diet, regular exercise, smoking cessation, limiting alcohol consumption, and medication when necessary, can help control triglyceride levels and maintain cardiovascular health.
