Is a heart rate of 170 during running normal?
I've noticed that my heart rate has been at or above 170 bpm during recent runs. Is a heart rate of 170 bpm while running considered normal?

Heart rate is an important indicator for assessing exercise intensity and cardiac health. When the heart rate rises to 170 beats per minute during running, determining whether it falls within an appropriate range requires comprehensive consideration of individual age differences, current physical condition, long-term training history, and specific conditions and environment during running.
Resting heart rate in humans typically ranges between 60 and 100 beats per minute, while engaging in high-intensity exercises such as running significantly increases the heart rate. A commonly used formula is "220 minus age," for example, a 50-year-old person would have an estimated maximum heart rate of approximately 170 beats per minute.
Reaching this heart rate level during running can be considered high-intensity exercise. For individuals who regularly exercise and have excellent physical fitness, particularly younger runners, a heart rate of 170 beats per minute may represent only a moderate exercise intensity.
If chest tightness, difficulty breathing, or other discomforts occur during running, or if the heart rate remains elevated for an extended period after exercise, prompt medical attention is recommended.
