Dr. Tian Hongbo

Fenofibrate tablets are a treatment option for elevated very-low-density lipoprotein (VLDL), but their suitability needs to be considered from multiple perspectives.

Fenofibrate tablets mainly contain fenofibrate, a fibric acid derivative, primarily used in the treatment of hypertriglyceridemia. It is effective in reducing VLDL and triglycerides and can also slightly lower LDL cholesterol and increase high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol.

For isolated hypercholesterolemia or elevated low-density lipoprotein (LDL) levels, fenofibrate may not be the most effective choice. In such cases, statins may be more appropriate, as they are more effective in lowering LDL cholesterol.

Although fenofibrate tablets are effective, they may also cause certain side effects, such as gastrointestinal irritation, myositis, myopathy, and elevated transaminase levels. Therefore, before considering the use of fenofibrate, patients are advised to seek timely medical consultation and use the medication under a physician's guidance.
