There is no sphygmomanometer at home. May I ask, how can I measure blood pressure without one?

In the absence of a sphygmomanometer, measuring blood pressure becomes quite difficult, as the sphygmomanometer precisely measures the pressure within the arteries using specific sensors and algorithms. Without a sphygmomanometer, it is usually impossible to directly obtain accurate blood pressure readings. However, there are several indirect methods:

1. Palpating the pulse: This mainly relies on sensing the pulse at the radial artery (wrist) or femoral artery (groin). Have the patient lie flat and relax their arm. Gently press the radial artery with your fingers until the pulsation disappears. Gradually reduce the pressure until the pulsation is felt again. The pressure at this point can be considered an approximate value of systolic blood pressure. For diastolic pressure, continue to reduce the pressure until the pulsation becomes very weak; this may provide a rough estimate of diastolic blood pressure.

2. Observing the fingers: Blood pressure status can be indirectly inferred to some extent by observing the color of the fingers. For example, fingers that appear bright red may indicate higher blood pressure, although this method lacks scientific evidence.

If there are any concerns, it is recommended to seek medical attention promptly.
