Foods and Fruits that Increase Platelet Count
The doctor said my platelet count is very low and wants me to take medication, but I don't want to take medicine. What foods and fruits can help increase platelets?

Platelets are a cellular component of blood, and their main function is to play a role in the process of hemostasis. When the body sustains a wound, platelets gather at the injury site and form a blood clot to help stop the bleeding.
Foods that help increase platelet count:
1. High-protein foods: such as beef, lamb, fish, chicken, milk, eggs, and legumes. These foods are rich in protein and can help promote platelet production.
2. Iron-rich foods: such as animal liver, lean meat, shepherd's purse, spinach, tomatoes, wheat bran, tremella, and shiitake mushrooms. Iron is an important component in the formation of hemoglobin, which is a crucial component of red blood cells. Therefore, these foods can benefit platelet elevation.
3. Traditional Chinese herbal foods: such as Astragalus (Huang Qi), Chinese yam (Shan Yao), longan pulp, black beans, hyacinth bean (Flat bean), and walnut kernels. These foods have the effect of replenishing energy and nourishing the blood, and may help increase platelet count.
Fruits that help increase platelet count:
1. Fruits rich in vitamin C: such as apples, pears, oranges, grapes, lemons, kiwifruit, strawberries, Chinese dates (jujube), figs, and others. Vitamin C helps promote iron absorption, thereby indirectly increasing platelet count.
2. Other beneficial fruits: such as water chestnuts (Trapa natans) and longan. These fruits also have some effect in increasing platelet count.
Although these foods and fruits have an auxiliary effect on increasing platelet count, they do not directly elevate platelet levels. For patients with abnormal platelet counts, it is recommended to undergo appropriate medical treatment under a doctor's guidance.
