Can disorders of uric acid metabolism be cured?
A friend has been diagnosed with a uric acid metabolism disorder. I would like to ask, can this be cured?
Disorders of uric acid metabolism, often manifested as hyperuricemia, are the main causes of gout and uric acid nephropathy. The treatment goals are to control blood uric acid levels, prevent acute gout attacks, and reduce complications.
1. Lifestyle modifications: Improving dietary habits, reducing intake of high-purine foods such as organ meats and red meat, and increasing consumption of low-purine foods such as fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Additionally, increasing physical activity and controlling body weight can help with uric acid metabolism and excretion.
2. Pharmacological treatment: For patients with persistently elevated blood uric acid levels, uric acid-lowering medications such as febuxostat and allopurinol may be used according to the patient's condition to inhibit uric acid synthesis. These medications can effectively lower the concentration of uric acid in the blood.
3. Close monitoring: During treatment, patients should regularly check their uric acid levels to allow timely adjustment of the treatment plan.
The above measures can effectively control uric acid metabolic disorders in most patients; however, long-term management is necessary to prevent recurrence.
