How to treat leg edema
Recently, my lower legs have been swelling frequently. They are slightly better in the morning when I wake up, but by the afternoon and evening, the swelling becomes severe. When pressed, the skin indents and doesn't rebound quickly, and my legs feel heavy and particularly uncomfortable. How should this be treated?

Leg edema, also known as lower limb edema, common treatment methods include:
1. Kidney disease: Edema caused by glomerulonephritis, nephrotic syndrome, etc., requires treatment targeting the underlying condition, such as controlling proteinuria and improving kidney function.
2. Heart disease: Patients with heart failure should receive treatment including cardiac strengthening, diuretics, and vasodilation to improve heart function and reduce edema.
3. Endocrine disease: Patients with hypothyroidism should take levothyroxine sodium tablets long-term for replacement therapy to correct the thyroid hormone deficiency.
4. Lifestyle adjustments: Reduce salt intake, avoid prolonged standing or sitting, elevate the lower limbs appropriately, wear comfortable shoes and clothing, avoid tight socks or pants, and engage in moderate exercise such as walking to help promote blood circulation and reduce swelling.
5. Physical therapy: For specific causes such as lymphedema, physical treatments like compression stockings and lymphatic drainage massage may be used.
6. Daily habits: Avoid prolonged standing or sitting, frequently move the lower limbs to promote blood circulation. Elevating the affected limb slightly during sleep can help reduce edema.
