禁忌症 for Drinking American Ginseng Tea
The other day I got some American ginseng from a friend and plan to steep it in water to see how it works. I'd like to ask the doctor, what are the contraindications or precautions for drinking American ginseng steeped in water?

American ginseng is a precious traditional Chinese herb that has the functions of nourishing Qi and yin, clearing heat, and promoting body fluid production. It is effective for symptoms such as dual injury of Qi and yin, chronic cough due to lung deficiency, thirst, and excessive sweating. Although drinking American ginseng tea offers benefits, the following points should be noted when using it:
1. Control the dosage: American ginseng is a cooling herb; the daily dosage should be limited to approximately 3–6 grams to avoid excessive intake.
2. Do not take with Veratrum: American ginseng is incompatible with Veratrum. Concurrent use may cause adverse reactions and should be avoided.
3. Do not take with radish: American ginseng should not be taken together with radish, as radish may weaken its Qi-nourishing effects.
4. Avoid drinking tea: Tea should be avoided for 2–3 days after taking American ginseng, because tannic acid in tea may degrade the active ingredients of American ginseng, affecting drug absorption and reducing its nourishing effects.
5. Do not take with coffee: The caffeine in coffee may interfere with the efficacy of American ginseng.
