What are the symptoms of a phlegm-damp constitution?
I always feel physically heavy, as if something is dragging me down. There is constantly phlegm in my throat, but I cannot cough it out. Additionally, I feel unusually drowsy and lack energy every day. When I visited a TCM doctor, I was told I have a phlegm-damp constitution. What are the symptoms associated with this type of constitution?

Phlegm-damp constitution is one of the traditional Chinese medicine body types, and is commonly associated with the following symptoms:
1. Body shape and complexion: The body shape often presents as obese, especially with a fat and soft abdomen, sometimes accompanied by swollen limbs with pitting upon pressure. The complexion often appears pale yellowish and dull, with excessive sebum secretion on the face at times.
2. Tongue condition: The tongue is generally enlarged, with a slippery, greasy, and white coating. Tooth marks are often present along the edges of the tongue.
3. Susceptibility to fatigue: Excess dampness in the body causes a feeling of heaviness, easy fatigue, and lack of energy.
4. Digestive problems: Individuals with phlegm-damp constitution often experience digestive discomfort, such as poor appetite, abdominal distension, loose or sticky stools.
5. Skin issues: Excess dampness may lead to oily skin, acne, or skin conditions such as eczema.
6. Oral, hand, and foot reactions: A sticky sensation in the mouth is common, with little thirst and reduced desire for drinking water. Sweating occurs easily, but after sweating, the skin often feels cool. Sometimes there may be cold hands and feet, a heavy sensation in the head and body.
7. Sensations and sleep: Individuals with phlegm-damp constitution often feel chest tightness, excessive phlegm, and drowsiness. They may prefer to curl up while sleeping, and sometimes experience joint pain, numbness of the skin, and gastrointestinal discomfort.
8. Joint pain: Dampness invading the joints may cause joint pain or stiffness, particularly evident during weather changes.
