What does it mean when the eyeball hurts?
Recently, my eyeballs have been constantly painful, sometimes accompanied by dryness and aching. The pain worsens after prolonged visual tasks. Could this be related to my frequent use of computers and mobile phones in daily life? I would like to know what exactly is causing the eye pain?
Eye pain is a common symptom that can be caused by various factors.
1. Superficial pain: Usually associated with problems on the eye surface, such as keratitis, conjunctivitis, dry eye syndrome, or foreign body sensation. This type of pain often presents as a stabbing, burning, or foreign body sensation and may be accompanied by symptoms such as red eyes and increased secretions.
2. Deep pain: May indicate issues with internal eye structures, such as iritis, glaucoma, or uveitis. This type of pain is often a deep, dull ache or pressure sensation and, in severe cases, may be accompanied by vision loss, headache, nausea, and other symptoms.
3. Neuropathic pain: When the ophthalmic branch of the trigeminal nerve is affected, it can cause severe pain in the eye area, typically characterized by sudden, sharp, electric shock-like pain.
4. Trauma-related factors: Traumatic conditions such as blunt eye injury, penetrating eye injury, or globe rupture can also lead to eye pain.
5. Lifestyle habits: Prolonged use of electronic devices, extended reading, or driving can lead to eye fatigue, which may subsequently cause eye pain. Insufficient rest, frequent late-night activities, consumption of spicy or irritating foods, smoking, and alcohol consumption are lifestyle habits that may also affect eye health.
