Treatment Methods for Facial Neuritis
My face has been twitching for a while, and after going to the hospital, I was diagnosed with facial neuritis. I've never experienced this before, and I would like to know what the usual treatment options are for facial neuritis.

The treatment methods for facial neuritis mainly include the following aspects:
1. Medication therapy: In the early stage of the disease, corticosteroids such as dexamethasone or prednisone may be administered to reduce inflammation and edema. Antiviral drugs such as acyclovir, along with B-complex vitamins like vitamin B1 and vitamin B12, are also used to provide neurotrophic support. Additionally, medications such as methylcobalamin may be used as adjunctive therapy.
2. Physical therapy: During the acute phase, apply heat packs, infrared irradiation, or shortwave diathermy around the stylomastoid foramen to promote local blood circulation and resolution of inflammation.
3. Acupuncture therapy: Acupuncture can have a certain therapeutic effect on facial neuritis by stimulating acupoints and promoting the recovery of nerve function. However, acupuncture treatment is generally recommended to start one week after onset.
4. Physical exercise: Patients should use their hands to massage the paralyzed facial muscles while looking in a mirror, several times daily for 5–10 minutes each time. Once nerve function begins to recover, patients can practice voluntary movements of individual paralyzed facial muscles while looking in a mirror.
5. Surgical treatment: For patients with severe symptoms, facial nerve decompression surgery may be considered. Additionally, for those with long-term non-resolution, facial-hypoglossal nerve or facial-accessory nerve anastomosis may be considered, although outcomes vary among individuals.
During treatment, patients should also maintain healthy lifestyle habits and a positive mindset, avoiding excessive fatigue and emotional fluctuations.
