Doctor's answer (1)
Dr. Liu Wenmin

Perioral dermatitis is usually caused by the long-term or improper use of topical corticosteroid creams. The following treatments may be used for this condition:

1. Immediately discontinue the use of all corticosteroid-containing topical medications to prevent worsening of symptoms.

2. Use gentle, non-irritating moisturizers or lotions to repair the skin barrier and help restore its protective function.

3. Under a doctor's guidance, apply non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications, such as antibiotics or antifungal drugs, to control any possible secondary infections. Hormone replacement therapy involves the oral or topical application of appropriately dosed synthetic or natural hormone medications to regulate hormone levels in the body. Antihistamines can inhibit histamine release and reduce inflammatory responses, while antibiotics can help eliminate bacteria and reduce inflammation caused by bacterial infections.

4. Apply cold compresses or use products containing soothing ingredients such as glycyrrhizic acid and allantoin to alleviate redness and itching.

5. Adjust lifestyle habits to avoid known irritants and allergens, and maintain healthy lifestyle practices to strengthen immunity.

If you develop perioral dermatitis, it is recommended that you seek medical attention promptly.
