Why does my ear itch inside?
After waking up this morning, I felt a significant itch inside my ear, and the symptom has persisted for a long time. I would like to ask the doctor what could cause such a sudden occurrence in the ear.
Itching inside the ear is a common symptom that can be caused by various factors. The main causes and management approaches are as follows:
I. Causes:
1. Dryness of the skin in the external ear canal: When the ear canal lacks sufficient oil lubrication, the skin can become dry, causing an itchy sensation.
2. Excessive earwax buildup: Failure to clean the ears for a prolonged period may lead to excessive accumulation of cerumen (commonly known as "earwax") in the ear canal, which can irritate the mucous membrane and cause itching.
3. Inflammatory diseases: Inflammatory conditions such as otitis media, seborrheic dermatitis, or external ear canal eczema caused by bacteria, fungi, or allergic factors can lead to inflammatory reactions within the ear canal, resulting in itching.
4. Allergic reactions: Allergic responses to certain substances, such as cosmetics, shampoo, or metal earrings, may cause itching in the ears.
5. External factors: Foreign bodies entering the ear or water entering the ear can also cause internal ear itching.
If symptoms persist or are accompanied by pain, hearing loss, or other concerning signs, prompt medical attention is recommended.
