Generally speaking, antihypertensive medications are used to control blood pressure within the normal range and reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. Exercise itself can temporarily elevate blood pressure and heart rate; therefore, taking antihypertensive medication before exercise may help maintain stable blood pressure. However, this does not mean everyone should take antihypertensive medication before exercising. Some medications may increase the risk of hypotension during exercise, especially when starting or increasing the intensity of physical activity. Whether one should take antihypertensive medication before jogging or any other form of exercise mainly depends on the specific type of medication being used and the individual's health condition.

1. Blood pressure control: If blood pressure is well-controlled under normal circumstances, it is generally unnecessary to take additional antihypertensive medication before jogging. During moderate physical activity, blood pressure may rise slightly, typically by 20 to 30 mmHg. For individuals with normal vascular function and neurohumoral regulation, such an increase is acceptable.

2. Onset time of antihypertensive medication: Antihypertensive drugs require a certain amount of time to take effect. It is not recommended for patients to start running immediately after taking the medication. They should wait until their blood pressure has been stabilized within the normal range before engaging in jogging.

3. Special circumstances: If patients have not been regularly taking their antihypertensive medications and their blood pressure levels are high, they should measure their blood pressure before jogging. If the blood pressure is excessively elevated, jogging is not recommended.
