Methods for Treating Stones
Recently, I've been experiencing a painful sensation while urinating, with a stinging feeling that is quite uncomfortable and accompanied by severe nausea. After undergoing an examination, I was told that I have kidney stones. I'm really curious about this condition and would like to know what are the treatment options available for kidney stones?
Common treatments for kidney stones:
1. Conservative treatment: Applicable for patients with small stones, no symptoms, or only mild symptoms. Main measures include drinking plenty of water, frequent urination, and appropriate exercise to promote the natural passage of stones.
2. Medication: Medications are used to facilitate the dissolution and expulsion of stones. Commonly used medications include herbal formulations such as "Paishi Granules," "Shenshitong," and "Urolithiasis Formula." These medications can relax the smooth muscles of the ureters and urinary tract, increase urine output, and assist in passing the stones. Additionally, for uric acid stones, reducing uric acid levels is crucial, while for cystine stones, alkalinization of urine can be used as an adjunct treatment.
3. Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL): This is a non-invasive treatment method suitable for kidney stones and ureteral stones smaller than 2 cm in diameter. Shock waves generated outside the body are focused on the stone, breaking it into smaller fragments that are then passed out of the body through urine. This method offers the advantages of minimal trauma and rapid recovery.
4. Surgical treatment: Surgery is a necessary option for stones that are large in diameter, located in special positions, or accompanied by severe complications. Surgical methods include open surgery and laparoscopic procedures, aiming to completely remove the stones and repair damaged tissues.
During treatment, patients should follow medical advice, attend regular follow-up appointments, and monitor treatment effectiveness and prevent complications.
