If your child suddenly develops a fever at night, please stay calm. Fever is a normal reaction of the body to viruses or bacteria, indicating that the immune system is working. Below are some steps you can take:

1. Measure body temperature: Use an electronic thermometer to measure your child's underarm temperature to confirm whether there is a fever. Generally, a temperature above 37.5°C (99.5°F) is considered a low-grade fever, and above 38.5°C (101.3°F) is considered a high fever.

2. Physical cooling: If the child feels uncomfortable, you may use lukewarm water to wipe their body to help dissipate heat. Do not use alcohol or ice water, as this may cause chills and a rebound increase in body temperature.

3. Hydration: Children are prone to dehydration when they have a fever, so parents should encourage them to drink more water or other fluids, such as electrolyte beverages.

4. Monitor symptoms: Closely watch for other symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, rash, or difficulty breathing, which may be signs of a more serious illness.

5. Administer fever-reducing medication: For children with high fever or discomfort, ibuprofen or acetaminophen may be given according to the child's dosage indicated on the medication instructions or as directed by a doctor.

6. Seek medical advice: If the child is younger than 3 months and has a fever, or if a child of any age develops rapid breathing, seizures, poor mental status, or persistent high fever, seek immediate medical attention.

Please note that each child's situation is different. If the suggestions above do not help or if your child's symptoms are severe, please seek immediate medical care.
