It has been many years now. My nose and throat are dry while sleeping at night, and sometimes I sniffle a bit.
I am 45 years old and have been troubled for years by dryness in my nasal passages and throat during sleep at night. I often wake up in the middle of the night with an extremely dry nose and throat, sometimes even needing to sniff to relieve the discomfort. This condition has seriously affected my sleep quality and daily life, and I hope to find a solution.
Dryness in the nasal passages and throat during nighttime sleep may be related to multiple factors. Environmental factors, such as low air humidity—especially in winter or when using air conditioning—can cause the mucous membranes of the nasal passages and throat to become dry. Prolonged mouth breathing, particularly when nasal passages are congested, can also contribute to dry throat.
Maintain a light diet, avoid excessive intake of spicy or salty foods, drink plenty of water, and consume more fresh vegetables and fruits to replenish the body's needed fluids and vitamins. If the indoor environment is excessively dry, a humidifier can be used, or a basin of water can be placed in the room to increase air humidity. If symptoms of dry nose and dry throat are severe, nasal irrigation with normal saline under a doctor's guidance or medications such as mometasone furoate nasal spray may be used for treatment. If dryness is suspected to be caused by conditions such as chronic rhinopharyngitis, timely medical consultation should be sought for targeted treatment.
It is important to actively identify the underlying causes and take appropriate measures to improve symptoms and enhance quality of life.
