Dr. Liu Wenmin

Facial redness, medically known as facial flushing, commonly occurs after emotional excitement, temperature changes, or dietary stimulation. If flushing occurs frequently and affects quality of life, the following measures are recommended for improvement:

1. Psychological adjustment: For facial redness caused by psychological factors such as excessive nervousness or shyness, adjusting one's mindset is key. Relaxation techniques such as deep breathing, positive self-affirmation, and practicing public speaking can help reduce tension.

2. Lifestyle modifications: Avoid spicy foods, hot beverages, and alcohol to reduce stimulation that causes facial blood vessel dilation. Ensure adequate sleep and avoid staying up late to promote metabolic balance.

3. Local cold compress: Applying a cold compress is also an effective way to relieve facial redness. For congestive flushing, a towel soaked in a mixture of normal saline and ice water can be applied to the face for 5–10 minutes to help alleviate facial congestion.

4. Medication: For facial flushing caused by specific medical conditions (such as menopausal syndrome or skin disorders), medication should be used under a doctor's guidance to manage the underlying disease.

5. Laser therapy: For vascular facial flushing, laser or intense pulsed light therapy may be considered to seal abnormally dilated blood vessels. This should be performed at a professional medical facility.

If facial redness is associated with medical conditions such as dermatitis or diabetes, appropriate medications should be used under a doctor's supervision.
