Why does the face turn red after drinking alcohol?
Disease description:
Why does my face easily turn red every time I drink alcohol? What causes this, and can I still drink alcohol?
The phenomenon of facial flushing after drinking alcohol may be related to the following reasons:
1. Poor ethanol metabolism: Alcohol contains a large amount of ethanol. If the body metabolizes ethanol slowly, it can accumulate in the body, causing facial blood vessels to dilate and the face to turn red.
2. Genetic factors: Some people may have genetic mutations that cause impaired acetaldehyde metabolism. These individuals are more prone to facial flushing after alcohol consumption.
3. Vasodilation: Alcohol consumption causes blood vessels to dilate, including the capillaries in the face, leading to facial congestion and resulting in facial redness.
4. Histamine release: Alcohol intake can promote the release of histamine, a chemical substance that can cause vasodilation and congestion, leading to facial swelling and redness.
5. Inflammatory response caused by alcohol: Alcohol consumption triggers an inflammatory response in the body, which may lead to vasodilation and facial swelling.
