What causes anal itching?
I have developed anal itching and would like to know what might be causing it?

Anal itching, medically known as pruritus ani or perianal pruritus, is a common symptom rather than an independent disease. Its causes may include the following aspects:
1. Hygiene issues: Improper cleaning or excessive cleaning can cause irritation and dryness of the skin around the anus, leading to itching.
2. Anal eczema may also cause itching. This could be due to infections, psychological factors, or environmental factors.
3. Parasitic infections: Particularly pinworm infection, which is common in children but can also occur in adults. Pinworms crawl around the anus at night to lay eggs, causing intense itching.
4. Anorectal diseases: Such as hemorrhoids, anal fissures, and anal fistulas. These conditions directly affect the anal area and are often accompanied by symptoms such as pain and bleeding, and may also cause itching.
If anal itching occurs, it is recommended to seek medical attention promptly to determine the cause and receive targeted treatment.
