Why Do Eyelids Twitch?
My eyelids have been twitching frequently lately, first the left eye and then the right eye. Although it is not painful, it is very annoying. I would like to know what is causing this and whether it indicates a health problem.
Extended use of the eyes, such as looking at computer or mobile phone screens, mental stress, and high work pressure may cause eyelid twitching. Sleep deprivation can affect the body's normal metabolism, leading to muscle tension, which may result in eyelid twitching. A deficiency in nutrients, such as B vitamins, may affect normal nerve function and lead to eyelid twitching.
Excessive smoking and alcohol consumption, as well as irregular lifestyle habits, may also irritate the eye nerves and cause eyelid twitching. Improving these bad habits can help alleviate or eliminate the symptoms. Eye inflammations such as conjunctivitis, keratitis, and blepharitis, as well as refractive errors such as myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism, may also irritate the eye nerves and trigger eyelid twitching.
Most eyelid twitching is temporary and does not require special treatment. Symptoms can usually be relieved through rest, reducing caffeine intake, and improving sleep quality. However, if eyelid twitching lasts a long time, occurs frequently, or is accompanied by symptoms such as blurred vision or headache, medical attention should be sought promptly.
