How to Determine if It's an Anal Fissure or Hemorrhoids
I have recently experienced anal pain and bleeding during bowel movements. I am unsure whether it is due to an anal fissure or hemorrhoids, and I would like to understand the differences between the two.
Anal fissures and hemorrhoids are two common anorectal diseases with similar symptoms, but they also have some distinct clinical differences.
An anal fissure usually refers to a tear in the skin or mucous membrane of the anal canal, often accompanied by severe tearing pain, especially during bowel movements, and the pain may last for several hours after defecation. The main symptoms of hemorrhoids include swelling, itching, pain, and bleeding around the anus. Hemorrhoidal bleeding is usually more significant, presenting as dripping or jet-like bleeding with bright red blood. In addition, prolapse of tissue may occur with internal or mixed hemorrhoids. For differentiation between anal fissures and hemorrhoids, patients are advised to seek medical attention promptly.
