How to Treat Anal Fissures in Children
Our five-year-old boy has been crying and fussing during bowel movements recently. We noticed blood streaks in his stool, and after examination, he was diagnosed with an anal fissure. How should anal fissures in children be treated?
Anal fissure in children is one of the common digestive system diseases in pediatrics. When children defecate, hard and coarse stools can easily damage the anal mucosa, leading to cracks.
To treat anal fissures in children, parents are advised to adjust their child's diet, increase dietary fiber intake, and encourage more water consumption to keep stools soft and reduce friction during bowel movements. Parents may use warm water or potassium permanganate solution for sitz baths, which help clean the skin and mucosa around the anus and promote anal muscle relaxation. If the condition is severe and conservative treatments are ineffective, surgical treatment should be considered.
