How many days should I apply warm compresses after double eyelid surgery?
I recently underwent double eyelid surgery, and the procedure went smoothly. My eyes are slightly swollen and bruised after the surgery. I would like to know how many days I should apply warm compresses post-operatively?
Apply warm compresses for 3 days after double eyelid surgery.
Double eyelid surgery involves making incisions on the upper eyelid skin, removing excess skin, fat, and muscle tissue, and then suturing and fixing the tissues to create the double eyelid effect. Due to the relatively significant surgical trauma, swelling after the operation is common and is a normal physiological reaction. Warm compresses can help promote blood circulation, accelerate the absorption of bruising, and relieve eye swelling.
However, during the first few days after surgery, cold compresses should be used initially to reduce bleeding and swelling. Generally, from the third day post-operation, warm compresses may be started. Warm compresses can be applied continuously for about 3 days, 2-3 times daily for 10-15 minutes each time, with the temperature controlled at around 40°C to avoid burns caused by excessive heat. Place the warm towel gently over the eyelid area without directly pressing on the eyes.
It is recommended to visit a qualified hospital and undergo double eyelid surgery under the guidance of a professional physician to ensure the safety and effectiveness of the procedure. In addition to applying warm compresses, it is important to ensure adequate rest, avoid strenuous exercise, and maintain good sleep quality, all of which aid in the recovery of the double eyelid.
