Anal fissure is a common anorectal disease. There are various treatment options for anal fissures, and the choice between conservative therapy and surgical intervention depends on the severity of the condition and the duration of symptoms.

Conservative treatment primarily involves lifestyle modifications, such as improving dietary habits, drinking more water, avoiding spicy and irritating foods, maintaining regular bowel movements, and using topical medications to alleviate symptoms. Patients may also take stool softeners under a physician's guidance to help reduce pain and promote healing of the fissure.

For anal fissures that do not respond well to conservative treatment or recur frequently, surgical intervention may be considered. Examples include fissurectomy and internal anal sphincterotomy.
