Dr. Zhang Lu

Cervical erosion, in fact, is a common gynecological physiological phenomenon rather than a disease. It refers to the eversion of the junction between the columnar and squamous epithelium of the cervix, causing the columnar epithelium originally located inside the cervical canal to become exposed on the cervical surface. It appears as a red, granular surface resembling an eroded state. Generally speaking, treatment methods for cervical erosion can be divided into the following approaches:

1. If the cervical erosion is asymptomatic and without complications, no special treatment is required.

2. If the erosion covers a small area and the inflammatory infiltration is superficial, patients may, under a doctor's guidance, use medications such as azithromycin, clarithromycin, or erythromycin enteric-coated tablets, combined with topical treatments such as Xiaomisu suppositories, to achieve better therapeutic results.

3. If the erosion covers a large area and medication proves ineffective, physical treatment methods such as laser therapy, cryotherapy, or microwave therapy may be used to promote the shedding of affected tissue and encourage the growth of healthy new tissue.

4. Surgical treatment: When the condition is severe—for example, with cervical hypertrophy, extensive erosion, or suspicion of malignancy—surgical treatment should be considered. Commonly used surgical procedures include cervical conization, loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP), and other related techniques.
