Can I wear glasses after getting a nose job?
I have decided to improve my facial profile through rhinoplasty. However, I normally wear glasses and am concerned about whether I can continue to wear them after surgery. I would like to know whether I can wear my glasses immediately after rhinoplasty or if I need to wait for a period of time.
After rhinoplasty, the nose requires a period of recovery and shaping to ensure stable surgical results. During this phase, the nasal structure is relatively fragile and susceptible to external pressure. Wearing glasses, a common daily activity, may exert pressure on the nasal bridge through the nose pads, therefore, patients are generally advised not to wear glasses for a period following rhinoplasty.
After surgery, doctors will provide specific recovery instructions based on individual conditions. Generally, it is recommended to wait at least 1–2 weeks, until the nose has initially stabilized, before considering glasses wear. If the glasses are heavy or fit tightly against the nasal bridge, a longer waiting period may be necessary to avoid additional pressure on the nose. During the recovery period, patients may choose to use contact lenses as an alternative until the doctor confirms full recovery of the nose, after which gradual return to normal glasses wear can be initiated.
In addition to avoiding glasses wear during recovery, it is also important to keep the surgical wound clean, avoid strenuous activities, and attend regular follow-up appointments to ensure optimal surgical outcomes.
